Hand feeding birds is amazing. I stand by the bird feeder very still with a handful of bird seed. After a long time I finally got a Chickadee to land on my hand. That was years ago when I first started. Now I have had many other birds eat out of my hand.
We have four or five Chickadees that come to our feeder. One of them is the one that ate from my hand. I am trying to get others to as well.
“So the Father created the great sea creatures and every living thing that moves, with which the waters teemed according to their kinds, and every bird of flight after its kind. And the Father saw that it was good.”
— Genesis 1:21

So that’s what Happened
I have found that the birds don't like to eat out of my hand unless it's resting on a branch. You have to wait many hours and be very still. It's very exciting when one finally eats out of your hand!
So much patience, and discipline.
Yes, I am still amazed watching Annabelle do this... She has much patience and perseverance. I only ever knew one other person who has done this. It was my country line dance teacher, Phyllis, who is a few years older than I am. I watched her go out with seeds in her bare hand, and she “called” to the birds. She stretched out her hand and they came and landed on her hand repeatedly, picking up seeds and flying away to eat them. I remember there were Nuthatches, Chickadees, and Cardinals eating from her hand. I’m not sure if there were other birds.. She gave me seeds and told me to stretch out my hand. She called out her special “bird call” and a bird actually landed briefly on my hand, took a sunflower seed, and flew away. I wish I had known when I was a child, that it was even possible, as I would have also spent countless hours doing it. Love, MeMe.
