My daddy went to Charm Engine in Amish country to get our mower. When he walked by this trailer, he saw a killdeer pretending it had a broken wing.
The killdeer did not actually have a broken wing, it was just pretending. It was trying to protect it's nest, which was near. They nest on the ground, and they have 3-4 brown speckled eggs.
“Look at the birds of the air: They do not sow or reap or gather into barns— and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?”
— Matthew 6:26

So that’s what Happened
If you ever see a killdeer doing such actions, then the best thing to do is leave it alone.
That was an eventful day. I had to report to the Stern Birders all that transpired.
That is a great video of the Killdeer. They can really put on a good show. I remember the first time I saw a Killdeer in action. I was about Annabelle’s age. I thought it was really amazing. It really demonstrates the strong protective love that the Killdeer parents have for their babies. They pretend to be injured, and flutter around on the ground, putting themselves at potential risk as decoys, to lure predators away from where their eggs or babies are. Those Killdeer parents would give their lives to protect their babies. Human parents would do the same thing. I believe that God gives us examples, all around us in nature, of how much He loves us, with an unconditional and sacrificial love.
